The
Third Annual Global Playback Event:
Human
Rights: Stories that Uncover our Hearts
November 18, 2007
Join
us in sharing your story! Playback Theatre companies on six continents,
in widely diverse settings and communities, will be performing personal
stories of “Human Rights: Stories that Uncover our
Hearts”.
This
global event aligns two movements - Playback Theatre, with its hundreds
of companies worldwide, and groups focused on promoting human rights.
The performances will remind us of what can happen when people give
their attention to our common humanity.
Playback
Theatre invites personal stories, told in community, and honors
the storytellers, through enacting their experiences. These enactments
have promoted compassion and understanding in challenging arenas
around the world. Groups in conflict and people divided by race,
class or caste have found new attitudes of acceptance through sharing
experiences in playback performances.
This
event is a moment in time when we can stop, take a breath, and focus
on the rights which are fundamental to all human beings. How have
we experienced those rights in our own lives, in the lives of loved
ones, of acquaintances, of strangers? What has happened to our lives,
the lives of loved ones, or the lives of strangers, when those rights
are withheld?
The
mission of this event is to use the power of Playback Theatre to:
-
Affirm the positive potential of our shared humanity
- Focus
attention on human rights, to create hope and positive change
- Unite
people across the world through an event with a shared theme
- Give
voice to people everywhere and honor their/our human experience
- Build
relationships, teamwork and trust
- Promote
an effective tool for upliftment that all can use.
Spread
the word, attend or host a playback performance, support the project
with a contribution, or join us in spirit---let's keep hope alive
together!
